On behalf of BCRMCA’s Board of Directors and membership, I’d like to thank each of you for the time you put in to preparation and delivery of your education course this weekend:
On Friday, March 11, Cengiz Guldemet from Metro Testing, Bill Gottschalk from Okanagan’s Diversified Concrete Specialist and Matt Dalkie from Lafarge Cement presented a flatwork forum to 47 contractors and finishers for the Kamloops chapter of the Canadian Homebuilders’ Association of BC.
On Saturday, March 12, Jerry Dahl from MJ Concrete Pumping, Bob Martin from Challenge Concrete Pumping and Frank Antonio from F & F Concrete Pumping delivered Concrete Pump Operator Safety Training to 65 concrete pump operators and 2 WorkSafeBC operators.
Both session attendees completed evaluation forms rating the session in the good to excellent range, and we will follow-up with the instructors individually to review all the comments. In general, I think everyone got a lot out of the sessions, even the veterans that have been in the business for more than 20 years. What’s more, as instructors, your efforts contribute to raising the bar for the concrete industry in BC – through safer job sites, better product knowledge and improved communication in the field. And as always, BCRMCA is grateful for the essential non-dues revenue generated by these types of training.
Well done, Gentlemen! We appreciate your work for the association.

Bill; I want to thank you for the wonderful job you did on our driveway, the completed job is simply amazing.
The degree of professionalism shown by you and your crew was evident throughout the job, I was particularly impressed by the care taken in cleaning up the worksite. You obviously take a great deal of pride in your work and this is reflected in the performance of your crew.
Thank You for a job well done
I just want to express my appreciation for the fine job your men did with our patio. The workmanship is superb. We love the pattern as well, & the shade of the subtle greyish avocado green (how do you like that for a color description, well that’s what it looks like to me & I love it). Blends in with the house & the front tiles @ the front entrance. We highly recommend you guys to the people who have complimented us re; the work on our patio. The guys were so easy going & ready to go extra mile, eg: the lovely rose border you did for us & all the irrigation pipes that had to be changed!! A JOB WELL DONE!! Take Care & the best success to you all!”

Mr. Gottschalk was approached in August 2011 based on his past concrete work experience in the Okanagan. He was polite, friendly and very approachable. Our structure had chunks of concrete missing that left internal rebar exposed. Rather than blindly mixing concrete and applying it to the structure in an attempt to repair it, Mr. Gottschalk’s advice had provided a more sustainable solution to the concrete structure that would ensure the repair job would not fail in subsequent years. He not only thoroughly explained the process to our engineering students on how concrete should be prepared, the materials required, and the curing times; he took time out of his busy schedule to repair the structure himself. He provided contact information for receiving the best materials for the job and explained the chemical properties that made them exceptional. Throughout the repair process, Mr. Gottschalk was easily reachable, and always had a polite, positive attitude. He performed the work out of kindness as a community activist, and there is no question he is able to deliver professional results.
We fully and whole heartedly recommend Mr. Gottschalk and the Okanagan Concrete Specialists for any professional concrete work.

We recently had a complete removal of an underground garage concrete slab and a new slab installed. Bill and OKDS were very professional and made sure we were pleased with the way the work progressed in a very timely manner. Bill kept us informed on what was happening, making sure we understood all phases of the project. Upon completion our property was very well cleaned and restored to the original condition. Bill was present all the time making sure his crew was on top of everything. We were very pleased with the professionalism of this company and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

Regrettably, we hired another concrete company to perform the work we required on our driveway, patio and stone pillars. When they failed to show up to complete the job, we made our call for help to Bill. He showed up that same day. OKDCS fixed the mess that the previous company created, and completed the job in a very timely fashion. We found Bill and his crew to be very knowledgeable, experienced, professional, and possess a strong level of commitment to excellence. Our great appreciation goes out to Bill and his crew for such beautifully well done job. We highly recommend OKDCS.

Bill Gottschalk, of OKDCS in Kelowna is a member in good standing of the BC Ready-Mixed concrete association. He currently serves as a member of the association's Board of Directors and the Education Committee.
A personable instructor, Bill has taught several concrete courses for BCRMCA -- most recently for the Canadian Home Builders Association and the Trowel Trades Program at TRU, both Kamloops, BC, to excellent feedback. His knowledge relating to finishing, curing and repair of concrete flatwork is extensive and he draws on more than 30 years of experience to practically illustrate the point he is making to students.
We are grateful for the dedication and expertise Bill brings to the BC Ready-Mixed Concrete Association.

Thompson Rivers University and the Trowel Trades Foundation Program students would like to thank you for contributing your expertise to our program with "Basic Concrete Technology" presented to us on March 27th.
Sharing your experience in the field with new apprentices is one of the best things that can happen early in their careers. Your stories of real world experience make the learning "stick".
Our goal with this program is to develop hands on job ready apprentices who will be an asset to the industry forming part of the cadre of new concrete finishers that will take the place of retiring workers over the years ahead. Thanks for taking the time to pass on your experience to enthusiasm to this group of new apprentices.
